Full Itinerary - Botswana
Day One & Two
Arrive at the Victoria Falls Airport and meet your Tour Guide for the first time. Your accommodation next to the Zambezi River is known for it’s occasional Elephant and Hippo visits thus keep you camera on hand at all times. You will visit the almost two kilometres wide and over 100 meters high Victoria waterfalls. The best view is from Victoria Falls National Park where you will get close enough to the falls that you will need a rain jacket. You will also have time to explore the railway bridge over the Zambezi river and the town of Victoria Falls.
Accommodation: Victoria Falls.
Day Three
Departing early today we head to Botswana. On the way we might see some elephants or buffalo. The road leads us to a small lodge near Nata - far away from light pollution and thus ideal for stargazing. Our lodge has it’s own water hole which is frequented by many Elephants who come to for a drink early in the evening. At the campfire under a star lit sky, we can watch the animals in peace while enjoying a sundowner.
Accommodation: Elephant Sands
Day Four
After our night in the wilderness and a sunrise coffee by the campfire, we go for a guided wilderness walk. With a bit of luck, a few elephants and giraffes will show their faces. On the afternoon game drive we learn about the wildlife and history of the area. Elephant photos are almost guaranteed. After returning to the lodge, cold beverages and a cozy campfire await us.
Accommodation: Elephant Sands
Day Five, Six & Seven
In the morning jump back on the 4x4 jeep that will take us to the next lodge in the Moremi Game Reserve region. The awaiting lodge team will provide you with a safety briefing as you are now in true wilderness where we are guests in the animal kingdom. While here you will undertake jeep safaris in the Gomoti, Khwai and Moremi Conservation Areas. With a bit of luck we will encounter the Big Five with your camera on hand to capture these memories. Your lodge has common areas where you can relax, share or just absorb all the impressions you have made thus far.
Accommodation: Moremi
Day Eight
Today we continue our journey through central Botswana towards the town of Maun. This is an ideal stop over point to stock up on snacks and treats for yourself before we head back into the wilderness for more Safari time. You will have free time available this afternoon for an optional sightseeing flight over the Okavango Delta. (approximately C$165 - C$200)
Accommodation: Maun.
Day Nine & Ten
Today we continue towards Shakawe in the northwest of Botswana. Our next lodge is located just before the border with Namibia on the edge of the Okavango Delta. This afternoon we will explore the waters of the Okavango in traditional four meter long mokoro dugout canoes with guides/ polers on the back in an almost Venetian style. The next morning we take an excursion into the Tsodilo Hills, where we do a short hike to see rock carvings of the San Bushmen who were the first inhabitants of Southern Africa. This afternoon we explore the Okavango Panhandle by boat.
Accommodation: Shakawe.
Day Eleven & Twelve
After a short drive from our lodge we reach the border with Namibia where we get another stamp in our passports. We then head east across the Caprivi which has been renamed the Zambezi Region. The next two nights in the Kwando area we will get very close to the hippos and crocodiles at the lodge and on a boat tour. Our next safari heads into Mudumu National Park, where great photo opportunities await us. You will get another chance to stretch your legs this afternoon on a short hike to a traditional village.
Accommodation: Kwando
Day Thirteen & Fourteen
Entering back into northern Botswana we head towards the famous Chobe National Park. You will have some free time today to lie in the sun next to the pool or practice your swimming technique with a drink in hand. This afternoon you will be taking a boat safari into the national park on the Chobe River. You can look forward to various animals but most memorable being elephants drinking water, frolicking in mud or even swimming in the river. Bird lovers will also get their money's worth with regular Fish Eagle sightings! Don't forget your camera!
Accommodation: Kasane (Chobe)
Day Fifteen
Head back home with a big smile and a longing to return to Africa again.
